In this final season of a 30 year old franchise, we see the evil ranger trope return. 30 years ago, the beloved pink ranger sees her crush exhibit a change in personality without any agency in her own narrative. Fast forward to 2023, we have our first red ranger who is a woman. This poster is celebrating her leadership and her tenacity even when facing against her brainwashed boyfriend.
Since we didn’t get to see this play out as much on screen, I wanted to highlight the conflict and contrast it with the undercurrent of intimacy between the two. Here, we aren’t afraid to display women wielding weapons or making expressions that don’t pose them as a pretty character. She is a leader who has to protect her team and the world.
